Michael A. Nicolas is a founder and Managing Director of Longford Capital. Michael is responsible for portfolio management, including underwriting, investment selection, and overseeing the efforts of independent attorneys and other professionals as part of the due diligence process. Michael also serves on Longford Capital’s Investment Committee. Clients and peers recognize Michael as an industry leader in litigation finance and strategic counseling. In Chambers and Partners, Michael is described by commentators as “super smart, is very principled and does things the right way, he understands both the financial and the litigation side of the business.” In addition, Chambers and Partners ranked Michael in the top four executives in the litigation funding industry. In 2018 and 2019, Lawdragon recognized Michael as one of the 100 leading legal consultants and strategists in the World. Michael is also an industry thought leader, speaking regularly at industry conferences and authoring numerous articles on issues pertinent to the industry. Prior to launching Longford Capital, Michael was an accomplished attorney with over 15 years of experience representing corporate clients involved in complex litigation, including trial experience in the commercial litigation departments of two prominent national law firms. Michael earned his law degree with highest honors from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1998, where he was named to the Order of the Coif and was a member of the Kent Legal Scholars, the Chicago-Kent Law Review and the Chicago-Kent Moot Court Honor Society. Michael graduated cum laude from Northern Illinois University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Business.
