Markus Hartmann joined Sandoz as the North American General Counsel in February, 2015 and served in that capacity for over two years. During his tenure, he led the general legal, Compliance, Intellectual Property and Government Affairs efforts for Sandoz, the generic and biosimilar pharmaceutical company that is a division of Novartis.
Prior to joining Sandoz, Markus spent almost six years at Reckitt Benckiser (RB). Markus held the role of a North American General Counsel for RB based in Parsippany, New Jersey, and then served as the North American and European General Counsel based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Prior to RB, Markus was the General Counsel for Aspen Dental Management in Syracuse, New York and has held various in-house legal leadership positions over the course of his career.
In 2014, Markus retired from the United States Marine Corps Reserves as a Colonel, having flown helicopters during Operation Desert Shield/Storm and later serving as a Judge Advocate in support of Operation Enduirng Freedom, deployed to the country of Djibouti in the Horn of Africa.
Markus received his BA degree from The Colorado College and his JD from Harvard Law School. In 2007, Markus earned an MBA from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY.
